Hatcher Pass is located in the Talkeetna Mountains here in Alaska, it's about 1 1/2 hours north of Anchorage, near Palmer and Wasilla. Dave and I had been planning on taking a drive up to Hatcher Pass this past weekend, but we decided last minute (again) to go Saturday night instead of Sunday. Thank goodness for Alaska's midnight sun in the summer...
I can't really describe what it's like driving up Hatcher Pass, through the Talkeetna Mountains, I'm hoping my pictures will do it the justice it deserves. It's like another world up there. Magical is the first word that came to mind when we arrived. I'm pretty sure Dave and I didn't talk much throughout the drive, we were both in such awe of the beauty around us. That, and I was too busy holding the "oh shiz" handle in the jeep and keeping an eye out for bears and moose, because I haven't seen either yet and I thought what better time than while I'm in the car and not out hiking the trails.
We want to make another trip up to Hatcher Pass soon and hike next time. This will definitely be a spot we'll bring any visitors that come to stay with us, it's too gorgeous not to share.
