Last week, Dave and I had a lot of fun exploring Juneau, Alaska a little bit more with my Dad while he was in town on vacation. We waited all week for the perfect day to hike up West Glacier Trail next to Mendenhall Glacier and the lake. Finally, the second to last day, we had a rare gorgeous sunny day. The weather couldn't have been any more perfect for this long hike, and the view was completely worth every step.
We hiked for a few hours and the trail would have taken us much further, if we wanted, but the sun was setting and we were ready to head back for dinner. Seeing the sunset from up there was breathtaking, you can see a short video of it here.
It's a gorgeous trail, and you can really take it as far as you'd like...I recommend it for some of the most gorgeous views in Juneau! It's also a really good workout. I’d call this hike intermediate (I’m no expert), since it’s not just a walking trail type hike (like Gold Creek Flume Trail) and there are a few steep parts.
