Places to Eat in Juneau, Alaska ↠ The Rookery Cafe.

Dave and I have had our eyes set on making a dinner date night at The Rookery Cafe, pretty much since we arrived in Juneau in August. It's an adorable cafe in downtown Juneau, the sign with the bird drew us in and once we peeked inside we knew it was our kinda place.

My Dad and I stopped in for coffee one afternoon while he was in town, which was a much needed pick-me-up and warm-me-up treat. Last weekend, Dave and I decided to do a dress up kinda date night now that I'm back to Juneau and The Rookery ended up being the perfect spot.

We started with the Artichoke Parmesan Dip and House Focaccia, it was fabulous. Dave and I like to think we're somewhat artichoke dip connoisseurs, we tend to get it as an appetizer most places that it's offered...and we really loved their take on it. I had the bimbimbap for my meal and it was equally delicious.

Places to Eat in Anchorage, Alaska ↠ Antonio's Greek Bakery and Cafe.

Antonio's Greek Cafe in Anchorage wasn't one of the restaurants that everyone was telling us we had to try while we were there, but I had found it on Urbanspoon when we first got there. It had great ratings and I love trying authentic food, so it was on my list.

We showed up to a little hole in the wall location and it was pouring down rain, we were only one of two couples there. The owner was a sweet older man from Greece and we got to hear a few stories about how he came to Alaska and all of the bakeries/cafe's he's owned, he was the server and the cook and a rockstar at both jobs. You could tell he took great pride in his work and it showed, the food was phenomenal. It was so great in fact, that as I'm writing this it's making me a bit sad, mostly because we didn't find this gem until a few days before we left Anchorage and I wish we could go again!

We had the dolmades as an appetizer and then Dave ordered the gyro with roasted potatoes and I ordered the spanacopita. Both were amazing. Dave's pretty picky about his gyro's after living in Europe for awhile and he MMMed his way through this one.

And then, as if I wasn't already about to burst, the sweet owner brought us out two pieces of galaktoboureko. I'd never had it before, I usually order baklava at Greek bakeries, but it was to die for. I about had to be rolled out of the place, but I didn't care, it was all so worth it. Food heaven.
